Pope Says His Church Shouldn’t Make Gays Socially Wounded

Pope FrancisPope Francis – Sovereign of Vatican City and the Bishop of Rome – says the Catholic Church must shake off its obsession with teachings on abortion, contraception and homosexuality or risk the collapse of its entire moral edifice, “like a house of cards”. Throughout his life, both as an individual and a religious leader, Pope Francis has been noted for his humility, his concern for the poor, and his commitment to dialogue as THE way to build bridges between folk of all backgrounds.

In a refreshingly blunt interview with an Italian Jesuit publication, Pope Francis said his church had locked itself up in “small things, in small-minded rules”. Its priests should be more welcoming and not cold, dogmatic bureaucrats stuck in confessionals that sometimes resembled “torture chambers”, he said.

Pope Francis has affirmed Catholic teachings on sexual morality, saying that while homosexual acts were sinful, the homosexual orientation was not. He favours a wider active role for women in the Church, but believes the ordination of women into the Catholic priesthood is impossible. In addition, Pope Francis said that it was necessary to listen to young people and admired their non-conformism :: Read the full article »»»»

Same Sex MarriageAs the world becomes more liberal and accepting of difference, charismatic Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a controversial bill – punishing people for homosexual propaganda – into law, according to an official publication over the weekend. The new law introduces fines of up to 5,000 rubles/$AU165 for citizens who disseminate information “directed at forming non-traditional sexual setup” in minors or which may cause a “distorted understanding” that gay and heterosexual relations are “socially equivalent”, the publication showed.

Critics and civil libertarians have called the bill homophobic, saying it’s “so vaguely defined that it would inevitably be used arbitrarily against gays,” stirring hate crimes in the country.

However, the bill sailed through the parliament. Mr Putin had promised in advance that he would sign the bill.

The fines go up to as much as 200,000 rubles/$AU6,600 for officials if such “propaganda” is disseminated through the media or internet. Foreigners will not only be fined but face administrative arrest up to 15 days and eventual deportation, the law says. Organisations face fines of up to 1 million rubles and shutdown of their activity for 90 days :: Read the full article »»»»

Australian Doctors Weigh Into Same-sex Marriage Debate

Australian Doctors Weigh Into Same-sex Marriage Debate - Rodolfo BuhrerAround 150 medical practitioners from the group Doctors For The Family have signed a submission to the Senate inquiry into marriage equality opposing same-sex marriage. The group says it believes heterosexual marriage is healthier for children.

Doctors for the Family’s Lachlan Dunjey told ABC News Radio that the organisation is concerned about the health consequences for children of same-sex marriages.

“It’s well proven that children who grow up with a mother and a father in a biological mother and father family do better than children who don’t have the opportunity to grow up in that kind of family,” Dunjey said.

The organisations website is blunt about it’s beliefs, stating: There are many organisations in Australia and internationally that support marriage – the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others – as the basis for family and a healthy society.

Doctors for the Family is a supporting medical organisation to highlight the health aspects of marriage and family and ensure a healthy future for our children.

Its purpose is to be a source of information and at times make representation to parliament or appropriate organisations to ensure policies that enhance and preserve the health and future of our nation :: Read the full article »»»»

US President Barack Obama Backs Gay Marriage

US President Barack Obama Backs Gay MarriagePresident Obama has finally made it official, announcing that he supports same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition. In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this decision, based on conversations with his staff members, openly gay and lesbian service members, and his wife and daughters.

“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together; when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told Robin Roberts in an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America

The president stressed that this is a personal position, and that he still supports the concept of states’ deciding the issue on their own. But he said he’s confident that more Americans will grow comfortable with gays and lesbians getting married, citing his own daughters’ comfort with the concept.

Obama’s decision to come out in support of same-sex marriage has sparked a Twitter frenzy :: Read the full article »»»»

US President Ready For Gay MarriageSo the big thing – globally – seems to be gay marriage, here in Australia Bob Katter is still pulling his foot from his mouth after bungling bigtime with those TV commercials. New York has said YES, Julia Gillard is on the fence. The Catholic Church is clearly not bending on it, the Presbyterian’s ordained their first gay minister in October 2011 and apparently US President Barack Obama is all for it…

We ran Bob Katter’s anti-gay video on our Youtube Channel, unanimously the hero comment was all to do with WHY, why would anyone – let alone gay couples  – want to get married.

The surprise comments were from the rednecks, who knew there were so many….

We digress, the US vice-president Joe Biden has sparked intense speculation that Barack Obama will endorse same-sex marriage if he wins a second term as president :: Read the full article »»»»
