The half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been reportedly assassinated in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian police said Kim Jong-nam collapsed suddenly at Kuala Lumpur International Airport – KLIA – he died en-route to hospital.
Police official Fadzil Ahmat said the cause of death was not yet known, and a post-mortem would be carried out on the body.
According to the official, Kim Jong-nam had been planning to travel to Macau on Monday when he fell ill at the airport’s low-cost terminal. “He felt dizzy, so he asked for help at the counter of KLIA.”
Kim Jong-nam was taken to an airport clinic where he still felt unwell, and it was decided to take him to hospital :: Read the full article »»»»

South Korea, US and Chinese authorities have scrambled for confirmation of the test, however officials in Seoul have cast doubt on the claim it was a hydrogen bomb saying no radiation had been detected. If confirmed, the explosion marks a major step forward in the country’s nuclear development. The surprise test was personally ordered by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and came just two days before his birthday :::: Read the full article »»»»

The International Court of Justice – ICJ – has ruled Japan must immediately stop its whaling program in the Antarctic. The ICJ’s 16-judge panel ruled 12 votes to four in favour of Australia’s argument that Japan’s whaling program was not in fact designed and carried out for scientific purposes.
The court ruled that Japan must revoke current whaling permits and refrain from issuing any more. Japan has used the 1946 International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, which permits killing for research, to justify killing whales in the Antarctic.
But the court’s judges agreed with Australia that the Japanese research – two peer-reviewed papers since 2005, based on results obtained from just nine killed whales – was not proportionate to the number of animals killed :: Read the full article »»»»

Australian Media, over the past couple of weekends, have highlighted the nations problem with alcohol. Headlines such as “Take Back the Streets, Two Nights of Living Hell and Police stabbed in Drunken Brawl” splashed across the front pages of the nations newspapers.
In New South Wales the Premier and Police Commissioner gave a press conference after a weekend of alcohol-fuelled violence which saw 540 arrests in one weekend. Police claim the arrests are evidence that messages about sensible drinking are not getting through, and that simply putting more officers on the street will not solve the problem.
However, the weekends arrests only came after a national police crackdown on drinking – Operation Unite last weekend, Rushmore this weekend – the reality is police operations are entirely symbolic, alcohol and drug fueled violence is an ongoing reality in Australia, not a one-off weekend of over-exuberant drinking.
A quick skip through the nations newspapers confirms the problem is national, and just like the management of the problem – alcoholism – no overbearing solution has been offered for what looks like a nation of overdrinkers.
If only it were that simple. The latest trend for revellers is a dangerous cocktail of alcohol and ice. The combination of a drug that increases stupidity – alcohol – and an illicit substance – methamphetamine – that causes uncontrollable anger and aggression has taken a solid hold in the Australian party scene :: Read the full article »»»»

Australia’s First ‘Revenge Porn’ Law
Australia’s most livable state, Victoria has modified existing sexting legislation to outlaw “revenge porn,” making it the first on the continent-down-under to criminalize the new form of cyber harassment.
The forthcoming law will make it an offense to take part in “non-consensual sexting;” i.e., deliberately sending explicit pictures of someone that isn’t yourself. Penalties for those who break the new law haven’t been finalised.
The laws have been through several drafts, including amendments added to protect minors – who post nude photos to one another – from being hit with child pornography charges.
Revenge porn first kicked off in 2010 with the launch of isanyoneup.com, a submission based porn site started by Hunter Moore. The site was a massive hit, dragging in hundreds of thousand of dollars in advertising revenue and attracting 30 million pageviews a month :: NSFW! 66 Australians are among nearly 400 people arrested after Canadian authorities smashed what they say is one of the worst child sex abuse rings they’ve seen.
Canadian police say their investigation into a multi-million-dollar child sex abuse video website has led to the arrests of nearly 350 people internationally, including teachers, police officers, doctors and priests.
A total of 386 victims of the ring were rescued from harm worldwide, including six in Australia – five in Western Australia, and one in the ACT. The Australian suspects in the operation are aged between 25 and 72 and have been charged with a range of offences including accessing, possessing, producing and distributing online child exploitation material.
The Australian arrests included a Catholic priest, a former priest and two teachers, all from New South Wales. But Queensland is the state with the largest number of suspects, with 33 people facing charges :: Read the full article »»»»
