A 12-year-old girl married in an Islamic ceremony to a 27-year-old man in New South Wales miscarried after becoming pregnant, court documents have revealed. A police statement of facts was tendered to the NSW District Court during the sentence hearing of the 27-year-old man.
The man has pleaded guilty to a charge of the persistent sexual abuse of a child after he told police he married the girl in an Islamic ceremony in the Hunter Valley last year. The man, who can not be named, faces a maximum 25-year sentence for the offence
UPDATE! In the NSW District Court Judge Deborah Sweeney gave the man, who cannot be named, a maximum sentence of 10 years with a non-parole period of seven and a half years. The International Court of Justice – ICJ – has ruled Japan must immediately stop its whaling program in the Antarctic. The ICJ’s 16-judge panel ruled 12 votes to four in favour of Australia’s argument that Japan’s whaling program was not in fact designed and carried out for scientific purposes.
The court ruled that Japan must revoke current whaling permits and refrain from issuing any more. Japan has used the 1946 International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, which permits killing for research, to justify killing whales in the Antarctic.
But the court’s judges agreed with Australia that the Japanese research – two peer-reviewed papers since 2005, based on results obtained from just nine killed whales – was not proportionate to the number of animals killed :: Read the full article »»»»

Two Google executives have penned an article for the New York Times “The Future of Interent Freedom”
In the op-ed, the duo – Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen – detail what they believe are the means to overcome internet censorship in repressive communities.
Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google, Cohen, Director of Google Ideas, assert that the coming decade will see the internet increase by five-billion users from around the globe.

Teen pop idol Justin Bieber has been released from jail in Miami, hours after he was arrested on a drink-driving charge when he was allegedly caught drag-racing in a rented yellow Lamborghini. The 19-year-old Canadian singer initially resisted arrest, cursed at police officers and later told them he had consumed alcohol, pot and prescription drugs, police said.
