For anygirl who’s used the services of a dating website – hand shoots up – a male posting pix of his weiner isn’t anything new. While the general population is left with the belief that sexting is a teen propensity, most grown men – around a quarter in my experience – proudly post mobile manifestation of their member on about the fourth or fifth encounter.
According to news website The Dirty, Mr Weiner, 48, used the name “Carlos Danger” to contact the woman on Facebook and establish an online relationship with her which involved the exchange of intimate photographs
Update: the Weiner might be under fire after admitting he sent lewd pictures to women online long after resigning from Congress over similar behaviour, however the politico says he will not quit the New York City mayoral race because it “isn’t the way we roll in New York City” ::::
In a statement from his campaign team, Mr Weiner confirmed that the latest allegations were substantially true, but tried to present them as having been covered by his previous confession.
“I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have,” it read.
“As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress.
“While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong. This behaviour is behind me.”
A poll last week suggested Mr Weiner was well-placed to become the Democratic candidate to succeed Michael Bloomberg as the mayor of New York City, with voters apparently largely indifferent to his scandal-tainted past.
Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin’s Post-Scandal Playbook
I just want to clarify that although I was 22 and technically an adult, I was obviously immature and I acted irresponsibly. I realize my correspondence with Mr. Anthony Weiner was a huge mistake and I am embarrassed by it. But the facts are the facts, and he’s running for mayor of NYC so I felt I should get my story out there.
I have no reason to lie. I don’t want the attention or I wouldn’t have kept my anonymity. I didn’t get paid for anything. I quite literally have nothing to gain from this.
Some people have doubts about the facebook page he used to talk to me in the beginning, before switching to facebook/formspring/phone calls — It’s his personal account. It’s linked to his wife’s account. It’s deactivated at the moment because of the campaign. Aside from the fact that I know many people in the political realm who have verified that it’s his account, I also know from our phone calls.
And to be totally clear, I did not sleep with him or receive any funds from him. I’ve seen comments stating otherwise and they are all totally false. I think it’s important to reiterate the fact that all of this happened with him after his first scandal, so all of his campaign promises about being a changed man are absolute lies.
Weiner’s Popularity Waning
Pollsters from Quinnipiac University ascribed Mr Weiner’s strong showing to his popularity with women, even though his main rival for the Democratic nomination is New York City Council speaker Christine Quinn.
That popularity has been, in turn, put down to the fact that Mr Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, a former advisor to Hillary Clinton, has stood by him.
Ms Abedin was pregnant at the time of Mr Weiner’s resignation from Congress and has since given birth to their son.
New York’s primary elections are due on September 10 ahead of the mayoral election on November 5.
Current mayor Michael Bloomberg was elected as an independent, but New York has traditionally been regarded as Democratic turf, and the winner of that party’s primary usually has a strong chance of going on to run the city.
UPDATE! 31 July 2013: Anthony Weiner, under fire after admitting that he sent lewd pictures to women online long after resigning from Congress over similar behaviour, says he will not quit the New York City mayoral race because it “isn’t the way we roll in New York City”.
In response to calls to drop out of the race and falling poll numbers, Mr Weiner posted a video message on his campaign website saying his campaign was not about him but about helping New Yorkers.
“You know, sometimes people say to me, ‘This campaign is pretty rough. You may want to quit’,” Weiner said. “I know that there are newspaper editors, other politicians that say, ‘Boy, I wish that guy Weiner would quit’. “They don’t know New York. They certainly don’t know me.”
A poll showed Mr Weiner slipping to fourth from first place among Democrats since more of his racy texts were made public on a gossip website.
Once a popular Congressman, he resigned in 2011 after saying he had accidentally sent a lewd picture over Twitter.
When Mr Weiner announced his return to politics last spring, it looked as if voters might give him a second chance, but that goodwill appears to be evaporating as more revelations emerge about his online chats with women.
